As the world's number one golfer, Scheffler is joined by an impressive cohort of talent, including Russell Henley (fifth-ranked), Robert MacIntyre (seventh), Ben Griffin (eighth), Justin Rose (tenth), and Sepp Straka (eleventh), the defending champion. Adding to the intrigue, Will Zalatoris, who missed last year's tournament due to a back injury, is set to make a comeback.
This year's American Express event holds particular significance as it marks Scheffler's sixth appearance. His previous performance history includes a career-best third-place finish in 2020 and three consecutive top-25 finishes following a missed cut in 2021. Despite being the third event on the PGA Tour calendar, the American Express takes on a different role this season. Due to unforeseen agronomic and logistical challenges, The Sentry was canceled, causing the tour to shift its schedule. As a result, the American Express now serves as the second event of the season, with the Sony Open in Hawaii kicking off the tour next week.
