Kia K4 Sportswagon: Manual Shift Wagon is Here! (Specs, Features, and More!) (2026)

Hold onto your hats, wagon enthusiasts! Kia is shaking things up with the introduction of the K4 Sportswagon, a new model that's sure to turn heads – especially in Europe, where the love for estate cars is still going strong. This bold move signals Kia's commitment to offering alternatives to the ever-popular SUV.

  • Under the Hood: Expect to find three- and four-cylinder gas engines, with a manual gearbox available on the base model. A full hybrid option is also on the horizon, slated to arrive later this year.

This new wagon, born from the K4 sedan and hatchback, is designed to cater to those who crave practicality without sacrificing style. Currently, it's a European exclusive, as the continent remains a stronghold for these versatile vehicles.

The K4 Sportswagon maintains the familiar design language of its siblings, but it's been stretched to 184.8 inches (4,695 millimeters) in length. The added inches are all in the rear, providing extra cargo space, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 107.1 inches (2,720 mm).

But here's where it gets controversial... While the K4 Sportswagon offers a spacious interior, it's missing a rear wiper. On the plus side, Kia seems to be ditching the fake exhaust tips on the GT-Line gas models. Inside, the design is familiar, with dual 12.3-inch screens and a 5.3-inch display for climate controls.

Immensely Practical: The K4 Sportswagon shines when it comes to cargo capacity. With the rear seats up, it boasts 21.3 cubic feet (604 liters) of space, which expands to 50.8 cubic feet (1,439 liters) when the seats are folded down. However, if you opt for the mild-hybrid technology, be aware that cargo space is slightly reduced to 17 cubic feet (482 liters) with the seats up and 46.5 cubic feet (1,317 liters) with them folded.

And this is the part most people miss... While the K4 Sportswagon offers ample space, it still falls short of the Volkswagen Golf Estate and the segment-leading Skoda Octavia Combi. Even the model it replaces, the Ceed Sportswagon, had a slightly larger boot, though the difference is minimal. Kia does include a standard electric tailgate, a feature not available on the hatchback.

Two Gas Engines, With A Hybrid On The Way: The base model is equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged engine, generating 113 horsepower, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. A mild-hybrid version of the same three-cylinder engine can be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The larger four-cylinder engine, a turbocharged 1.6-liter unit, comes standard with this transmission and offers either 148 hp or 177 hp.

With the decline of diesel engines, Kia is focusing on efficiency. A full-hybrid version will arrive in Europe later this year. Regardless of the powertrain, all K4 Sportswagon models will be manufactured in Mexico.

Motor1.com's Take: The Kia K4 Sportswagon is a welcome addition, particularly in Europe, where demand for wagons remains robust. It presents an interesting alternative to SUVs, potentially appealing to buyers seeking something different from the offerings of the Volkswagen Group and Stellantis.

Controversy & Comment Hooks: The U.S. market could certainly benefit from more affordable estate cars, as models like the M5 Touring and RS6 Avant command high prices. What do you think? Would you like to see the K4 Sportswagon in the U.S.? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
