The Mandopop star JJ Lin didn’t just perform at the Asia Artist Awards (AAA) in Kaohsiung; he left with two trophies and a stunned expression that said it all.
This year’s AAA marked its 10th anniversary and, for the first time, took place in Taiwan. The star-studded ceremony showcased Korea’s biggest names—IU, Park Bo-gum, Yoona, Le Sserafim, Stray Kids, and more—lighting up Kaohsiung National Stadium.
Amid the sea of K-pop royalty, one artist stood out in the most unexpected way: JJ Lin, the Singaporean singer, who was there as a performing guest and likely expected nothing more than applause.
To everyone’s surprise, Lin walked away with not one, but two awards: Best Artist (Singer) and Asia Star (Singer). He became the sole non-K-pop act among nine winners to take home the Best Artist trophy that night.
No wonder his expression looked equal parts disbelief and delight.
When his name was announced, cameras caught Lin flashing a quintessential “Wait, me? Are you sure?” look.
Onstage, he kicked off his speech with a Korean self-introduction: “I’m JJ Lin.” Then, radiant with his trophy, he switched to Mandarin to say, “I thought I was only invited to perform and attend the ceremony, didn’t expect to win an award, too.”
Still processing the moment, Lin thanked the audience for their youthful energy in English, marveled at simply being there, and gave a heartfelt shoutout to his fans for sticking around.
Aww—it's hard not to adore a seasoned superstar who gets wonderfully blindsided by success.
