It's a bittersweet farewell for Fresno's breakfast lovers as Bennaddiction, a local favorite, closes its doors after a remarkable 13-year run. The news hit hard, especially for regulars like Madelyn De La Cruz, who shared that Bennaddiction held a special place in their hearts. They, along with many others, flocked to the restaurant for one last meal, a testament to the strong community it had fostered.
Bennaddiction's story began in 2013 as a humble food truck in Downtown Fresno, a passion project by owner James Caples. It quickly blossomed into a beloved breakfast spot, even earning a feature on the 'Dine and Dish' series in 2022. Caples expressed his sadness at saying goodbye, emphasizing the deep connection he had with his loyal customers. He cherished the community he built, a place where people felt welcomed and valued.
But here's where it gets controversial...The closure wasn't an easy decision. Caples cited a combination of factors, including the sudden closure of their original location in 2023, rising costs, and the impact of the government shutdown last year. He even stopped paying himself, relying on tips to keep the business afloat.
And this is the part most people miss...The rising cost of ingredients played a significant role. The ABC30 Price Tracker revealed that bacon prices in Fresno jumped from ($5.63) per pound in 2016 to ($7.29) later. Similarly, eggs saw a price increase, going from ($2.33) to ($3.49). By October 2025, sales had plummeted by 25% compared to the previous year, leaving the restaurant nearly ($800,000) in debt. Caples admitted that he was simply exhausted, leading to the difficult decision to close.
But the story doesn't end there! Caples is offering a piece of Bennaddiction to its loyal customers by selling their mugs through a bid offer, allowing them to take a piece of the beloved breakfast spot home. The last day to enjoy breakfast at Bennaddiction will be Monday, January 19th.
